Title Research: The Spiderman

There are 25 opening title sequences in the opening of The Spiderman. 9 of these are title slides with the acting list and 12 of them were the movies production jobs. The images prioritized in the scenes were the large  spiderwebs, Spiderman himself, and the buildings used to hold the names of the production cast. These are all important to the movie so establishing them now is good to the reader. In a way, the title slides are rather scary as they are black with chrome. They also sit on screen for a longer than usual time, building negative suspense that may worry some viewers. The genre is first reinforced by the sounds. They play loud dramatic violins to start building suspense. The sounds also speed up to start the fast paced feel. They also use the webs, spider mans signature move in the title scenes to give the reader a piece of the movie while viewing the title scenes. The film does this through the use of dark imaging. They keep things dark and show only outlines to create suspense. They also bring the effects on and quickly off the screen to make the reader concentrate harder on the screens. The biggest thing they do is show Spiderman. This gives the reader a detailed view of him, allowing them to see what they came for right from the start. They also play dramatic strings to entice the reader into wanting to see more, just like sound in other action movies. The biggest use of technology here was editing. There were little camera shots other than extreme closeups of Spiderman. The movie does a great job at showing the spiderwebs and quickly moving them off the screen to not show too much. They also edit in the moving buildings which was nice to keep things moving. They do some cool sequences with the letters showing everyone's name also to keep it visually appealing.

Title Research: License to Kill

During the opening scenes of "Licence to Kill" there was 31 title slides. The first 10 of them were actor lists, and 16 of them were the production jobs. The images scene the most are the outlines of women seen dancing. There are also several shots that are meant to look like guns. They do these flashy shots to keep the viewers interest even during the title scenes. What connotations do the images carry? The images portray a strong feeling of distrust. They are shots of gun, money, and women. These are all shown in a negative light and it makes the reader have a certain distrust the movie wants to put off due to the opening title images. Due to the fact that we are doing an action movie, they relate to this by giving graphics of guns shooting off and the main points of the slides fading in and out, almost if they are reacting to the guns. They also edit in a rainbow of colors to bright the darkness to life and give an eerie feeling to the reader. This is done by simply keeping the scenes dark. They are hard to see what exactly is going on because they only show a piece of a gun or person, this means the viewer has to try extra hard to see a little bit of the scene, and because they are all high profile items, you can start to build a profile of what exactly the movie is going to encompass pretty quick. The biggest strategy they used is the audio and more specifically, the music. It switches and I think they are using popular music from the time of the movies release. This will draw in the crowds as they can feel more for the movie as it uses popular sounds they know and love. Technology was used very effectively. They edit in lots of things like black walls and gun effects to draw in the viewer. They also use the camera when a person comes on scene but only use a wide shot to get the whole person. There is a lack of shots but the editing ties the whole title part together as it is what gives the title scenes flair and excitement.

Title research: Venom

There were twenty two titles displayed during the opening sequence of the movie Venom including editors, actors, and directors. There was a street view, and then it changed to an array of abstract black red and white pictures. They probably represent the Venom. They play fast, intense music throughout the entire opening sequence which . adds to the intensity of an action themed movie. The title sequence makes the viewer wonder what the Venom really is, because of all of the abstract pictures and videos. They added in music from a popular modern artist to connect with their targeted audience, as young people will most likely be watching this movie. The editing made this title sequence, there were a lot of abstract pictures and videos that were put together really smoothly. The transition between the different pictures and videos are extremely smooth.

Title research: Code 8

I watched the title sequence of Code 8. While watching the title sequence I kept note of 29 separate titles that appeared throughout including directors, editors, and actors. Images that have to do with what the narrator is saying pop up on the screen and move and change rapidly. For example, there was a picture of a man working. The connotation to this image is that people with powers are being forced to work. There is energetic and intense music in the background which matches with the action theme. When they show the fast and a lot of the time distorted pictures it causes an enigma, and pulls the viewer in. They talk about what is going on in the time of the movie, which appeals to what . the audience wants to watch. The editing technique was very effective. They had many transitions and glitch effects which added a lot to the title sequence.

Title Research: Watch the Titles

Before we even begin filming, we have to know which aspects of the action genre opening sequences we will use. To do this and get a more in-depth look, we need to do a substantial amount of research. To make the research credible we need to be able to research from many sources, so that we can absorb many different aspects which fall into our genre. With this being said, and us using "Art of the Title" to research. It will be nice to be able to do research from another source. this will allow a bigger range of films that can be watched. Which then also allows for a bigger range of aspects to be noted. The other website we are conducting research on the action film opening sequences is "Watch the Titles". This website is quite similar to "Art of the Titles" because it offers the beginning sequences of different films. When on the website we just need to choose are genre. Once we've selected our genre, we can begin watching the opening sequences to action films. Since the research on both websites are the same, we will continue to use the same strategies to make notes on the  aspects of the opening sequence. We will take very close notes on the transitions, fonts, sizes, and placements of all the titles and write them done. With this information we can compare the notes of all the films we watched. During the discussion, we will defiantly mentions what we like and don't like about the aspects of the opening sequence of each one we watch. Then we may proceed and choose the final aspects that will be implemented to our final film.

Title research: Art of the Title

Once we've wrapped up our genre research and concluded that our chosen genre was action, we now have to research the aspects of this genre. One of the first aspects of movie that appear before the film itself are the titles. Usually the titles in the beginning of the film are used to provide a complete showing of the production crew and cast. With this being said, we were assigned to visit the "Art of the Title" website to do some research on the titles of films. Since our genre is action, we will only be watching and paying attention to the titles of action films. When watching the beginning of the movies, we will fully direct the different aspects of the titles : placement, font, etc. While watching the beginning of these movies we will take notes on each of those things. This will help us when making or inserting titles into our film because we will know the commonalties of the action genre titles. On top of looking at the titles themself, we also were assigned to research the surrounding aspects of the title as well. For example, we were assigned to count how many titles there are. On top of that we also have to look at the prioritized images in the opening sequence. We have to notice technical codes and symbolic codes and how they are reinforced from the outset. "Art of the Title" provides a diverse range of genres to research. While on this website, we will look for action films to watch. We will watch a set of action films and determine the commonalities and differences. Once the research has been done we can discuss the aspect we do and don't like. Once we have discussed the aspects, we can now pick and choose what aspects we will use for our titles and opening sequence.

Triple Frontier Analysis

To being with, the movie Triple Frontier starts off with the movie titles. While the movie titles are playing, in the background there's diegetic sound, which is a voiceover of someone speaking. This voiceover carries over into the next scene which shows a women speaking. This is filmed at an eye-leveled shot. Once the subject is finished speaking it cuts to a wide shot at and high angle to show the people whom she's speaking to. The actor in this scene are dressed in army combat uniforms, along with some being dressed in business attire. After the women ends her speech, another man begins to talk. He's dressed in casual attire with jeans and a rolled up long sleeve shirt. This is filmed from an eye-leveled angle. The shot it is filmed in is a Long shot because you can see his whole body. Eventually the camera starts zooming into the subject slowly.  The sound in this scene is still diegetic because the man is still speaking to the audience. After the subject finishes speaking, there's a cut scene. It cuts to an aerial, wide, tracking shot of a helicopter flying over a town. After this it transitions to a close up of someone sleeping, which he then wakes up in the helicopter.  In the background to his left you can see someone in a police vest flying the helicopter. To his right you can see the town in the background. After this it cuts to the helicopter flying and a soundtrack begins to play. One of the things I didn't like was the setting in which, the people were talking. I believe if the setting was the location of where they are heading to, it would of been a more intense talk rather then them sitting in a police station. I did like the talk because it did explain one of the main character in the movie and how he's going to be portrayed for the rest of the movie.
To add on, in the middle of the movie the movie is focused on the subject which was sleeping in the plane. He is with partners which are dressed in vest and combat attire. In these scene the actors are equipped with props. the props include: lighter fluid, radios and guns. All of these shots are filmed at eye-level. tracking shots are also used to film the actors search the building that they are in. Non-diegetic sound is playing in the background which is creating suspense in their search. As they proceed to search the house, the shot switches into a 2 shot and it shows one of the subjects searching under a room, while the other is pouring lighter fluid behind him. Once the subject pouring the lighter fluid is finished, he pulls out another prop, which is a lighter. Once the lighter is pull out, a cabinet dresser moves from off the wall and someone pops out and beings shooting. The next scene is a gun fight, which is very loud because of the noises of guns firing. The people searching the house, kill the subject who was shooting at them. Once they do this, the enter the secret room in which he is hiding in. This room is full of  props: guns, money, and food. One of the thing I enjoyed, was the quick moment of silence before the bad guy popped out and began shooting. Something I didn't enjoy too much was the dialogue aft the man was shot. It was in a joking matter while the situation was serious because someone was wounded.
At the end of the movie, the group which was searching the house earlier in the movie were walking through a forest. They had makeup on as well. The makeup was dirt on their faces, along with gashes. This was filmed in a Medium Long shot because it showed them walking from the knees up. The props in this part of the movie were weapons, backpacks, and they were all carrying a duffle bag. The lighting was dark because it was night time and they were in the middle of nowhere. As they continued to walk they approached a vehicle. They didn't know if anyone was in the vehicle so they drew their weapons and got closer. The lighting rapidly changed too bright because the car turned on and someone rushed out of it. This was still being filmed in a medium wide shot because it was from the knees up. It also switched between a Medium close-up, wide shot, and a closeup. There was diegetic sound because they were all speaking. The languages switched from English to Spanish. The person who rushed out of the car had 2 props. He had a gun pointed at the main characters and he also had a radio. After being on foot for so long, the subjects loaded the car with their equipment and drove off. Them driving off switched to a tracking shot. The sound changed to a non-diegetic sound which was intense music in the background of the subjects speaking. You could also hear the sound of the engine roaring. Not only were they trying to get away, but they were firing shots, so you could also hear the sound of gun shot. While they were driving the sun started to rise so the forest wasn't as dark and there was dim natural lighting. After being on a chase down from the enemy, the managed to escape them and got onto a boat. Once on the boat it was filmed on a wide shot. The non-diegetic sound of the music switched from intense music to a celebratory and more soothing music. Then the shot switch to an aerial shot as the rode off in the boat.

The Karate Kid Analysis

In the opening of the newest The Karate Kid, main character dre is seen in his house moving around on a suitcase. The lighting is dim as for the fact that he is getting to leave everything he knows to move to a foreign country. This poor lighting is done on purpose to provoke sad emotions in the viewer. A couple minutes in, they are outside while it is raining. The lighting is still poor here as they want to portray a gloomy feeling. In the middle, the lighting changes a lot, it is bright when the character is happy, and it is gloomy and poor when he is scared, nervous, or having to face his fears. Nearing the end. The lighting is both good and bad. He is fighting on a circular mat that is fully lit, but everywhere outside of that is gloomy to show the reader the fight is serious. I liked this because it was a direct indicator of what mood the viewer should be feeling, and I hope to contribute this into my movie. Camera angles in the start are not much. They rarely change and usually can get the whole scene in the frame. They use no high or low shots, just wide angle shots. In the middle, every fight scene was a crane shot, and there were even some eye line shots. The end was also neutral. There were a few crane shots, but they were mostly wide angle shots meant to get the whole scene in view. Throughout the movie, the camera movement was the same, they rarely used tracking shots and the one time they did was at the end when they were fighting on the circular mat. Another thing I did not really enjoy was the editing. Throughout the movie, there was no actual bad editing, but I thought they could improve. For example, when showing fight scenes, the switch angles so fast it is hard to see the fight move and it confuses the flow of the movie. This is an easy fix that I will not make in my movie. Something I really think tied the movie together was the sounds. At the start, there was pure everyday sounds like trees and planes, that let the viewers assimilate to Dre’s lifestyle. In the middle, whenever there was a fight, and there was a big punch you would hear a crack. I enjoyed this as it allowed me to stay engaged, ready for the next big hit. However, the ending had the best sound. There was only one fighting going on, yet you could hear the crowd boo or cheer. Yet also, you could hear Dre and everything that was going on with him during the fight. The costumes were also phenomenal. At the start, when he lived in America, he dressed as a very stereotypical kid which was nice to view. Then in the middle, as he was transitioning to a different culture, he began to take on more and more and more of their clothing styles. At the end, he dressed as if he were a local, and this allowed the viewer to understand he enjoyed it in his new home.

James Bond Skyfall Analysis

At the start of Skyfall, the camera angles, were slow, did not really give the whole scene, and were intentionally high to show the opening scenery of the movie in taking place in the middle east. The movies mid section had little variance of camera angles. However, there was a lot of reversal shots taking place as the commentary increased. There we also a couple more oblique shots as the action had increased. The purpose of this was add suspense to the upcoming chase scenes. The costumes stayed really the same. In the opening, middle, and closing, the main actor was wearing a suit. The only time the main actor would change was when his suit was ruined or he was getting intimate. The lighting in the beginning was terrible. The shots were mostly relying on shadows, and the while first 4 minuets were in darkness. However, the middle was bright and there was always a high sun as the viewers needed to see the action clearly. The ending was also bright, but there was long stretches of open day shots, whereas the middle part changed angles a lot and this effected the lighting, due to the chase scenes.
The sound in the beginning was minimal, you could hear a pin drop. There was music over this minimal sound, but you could tell the sound was low on purpose. The middle however was much different, there was lots of sounds from hearing feet on gravel, to the reloading of guns, to even the characters spitting. The end was quiet, it was like the opening because of the lack of noise, but it was different because all the noise was nature, like birds chirping. The use of props was very consistent all the way through. This first scene there was a gun in the viewers screen. Near the middle, there was many more props, guns were everywhere and things like train cars were being destroyed to add to the depth of the movie. Nearing the end, there was a ceramic bulldog that had made appearances several times throughout the movie, this was in the ending and it gave a comical finish as the main character hated the bulldog.
The biggest difference was the editing. In the beginning, there was little to no change in shots, and no added visual effects. This left for a rather boring start as it was not holding my attention. The middle was a different story. There was a lot of editing magic going on. There were some larger than life explosions that took place, and the editing was flawless. In the middle, there was perfect shot transitions and they missed a single important shot. The end was very similar to the start. There was little added effects and the shots were not as magical as the beginning. The only thing that held the movie together at the end was the actual acting, as the head actor really sold himself on the closing acts. My favorite part of the movie was definitely the fact that the movie never actually stopped, there was breaks in the action, but the actual flow of the movie was turned off.

Avengers Eng Game Analysis

The movie I am analyzing in this blog is Avengers End Game. The beginning of the movie used a lot of long shots. For example, when Hawkeye was teaching his daughter how to shoot a bow and arrow. You could see their entire bodies, as well as objects on either side of them. Another common camera angle was medium shot. One example of this being used was when Black Widow was talking to the other avengers. Some examples of mice en scene in the genre that showed up in the beginning of the movie were a house in the countryside, and a spaceship. The house was surrounded by a big grassy field, and a lot of trees. There was a lot of diegetic sound, and also a soundtrack. The beginning consisted mainly of cut scenes, with a couple of dissolve transitions. There wasn't a lot of action in the beginning scenes, however we did get to see what happened to the characters from the last movie. Some elements I liked, were the wide angle of the entire space ship, and the suspense when you don't know if Iron Man will live or die. There weren't any elements I didn't necessarily like.

The middle of the movie is where you start to see more action. Some of the camera angles in the middle of this movie were wide angles, and pan shots. There is a scene that uses a crane shot too. As for mice en scene, they are in a SHIELD building for most of the middle. There is diegetic sound in the middle of the movie. There is also non diegetic sound, and a soundtrack. There was more action in this part of the movie. For example there is a scene where Captan America is fighting himself on a bridge. This scene is a perfect example of what an action movie should have. There were many cutscenes in this part of the movie. Some of the elements i likes were the action, and the suspense. There are still no elements that I disliked in the movie.

Some camera angles used in the end of the movie were tracking shots, wide angles, and eye level shots. When the hulk notices a man sitting on the bench, they use a tracking shot. There was also a medium shot when they showed the hulk looking at Captan America. The mice en scene was a forrest, and the inside of a household many years ago. There was diegetic sound, non diegetic sound, and a soundtrack. There was even a sound motif for Captan America. At the end of the movie, they played a different soundtrack and then rolled the credits. There weren't many elements of action in the end of the movie. Some elements I liked were when they showed what Captan America had been doing when he went back in time. There wasn't any action in the end which was kind of disappointing.

Our Movie Genre

Throughout the genre researching process, my group and I have researched a total of three different genres. The genres we chose to research were: Comedy, Horror, and Action. When researching we learned that these genres have many aspects in common with one and another. For example, we learned that both action and horror films like to include a little humor to shift the mood of the movie, which keeps the audiences attention. After critically thinking as a group, we came to a consensus that our final genre in which we will film our movie in, will be action. We decided on the action genre because it is the best genre for our pitch idea. Acton films consist of many different camera angles, movements, and editing transitions from scene to scene. This is was led us to choose action because when it comes to filming a robbery turning into a chase down, we believed we could make the best quality movie, if it was filmed as an action film.

Genre Analysis: Horror & Action

Beginning of the Year Powerpoint

In the beginning of the year, we were assigned to complete a in-depth research about a genre which was given to us. For this project, I had to research the Comedy genre. The research for this project consisted of me having to look up different aspects about the comedy genre. For instance, I researched different lightings, camera movements, and common Mis en scene. Not only did we research features from the pre-production and production but we also researched aspects of post-production. The primary feature in post-production aspects that was being researched was editing. Not only did I go in-depth about the editing of comedic films but I also got to elaborate on aspects of the film in which I enjoyed. After elaborating on the aspects of which I enjoyed, I also got to elaborate on aspects which I really did not enjoy. On top of this, I also got to choose a couple of examples from this is genre. It was quite enjoyable researching the aspects of this film because I familiarized myself with it.

Start of final task

Hello, my name is Alex and I am a sophomore in high school. Growing up in Florida, I find myself outdoors a lot. Some of my favorite activities are soccer, skating, and wake boarding. Luckily, Florida is warm year round, and so I can do these activities any time of the year. I also play basketball with my friends, at the park. After skating for a while I started to want to make edits of myself skating. I then downloaded Final Cut ProX and learned how to edit. Since I didn’t have anyone to learn how to edit from, I had to watch YouTube videos and learn from watching those videos. Soon enough, I became skilled in using this editing technology. This encouraged me to take the AICE Media class.

I have learned a wide range of skills while taking AICE Media. I have learned camera angles, how to edit, and how to plan and film a video. I am excited to use storyboarding. This is a fun element of making a video in which you draw out every scene of the movie. I am looking forward to having a general idea as to what the video will look like. I am looking forward to actually filming the video. The filming techniques we will use are exciting to me, because of how much flexibility you get with which ones you use. If used correctly, the right camera angles can be key to making a good movie. I am also very excited to use the editing skills I have learned. I am going to make clean transitions that are very professional,  and hard to do.

I am in a group of three for my final task, the group consists of Jorge, Jack, and myself. Jorge is excellent at filming, Jack is good at organization and making sure everyone is on task. I, am the editor of the group. Before looking at our pitches, i thought . I would explain what one is. A pitch is a Hollywood term used to describe an idea for a film in less than 25 words. Jack's pitch was to have robbers kidnap someone from the house they are robbing. The hostage then has to try to escape on foot. This movie may take place in one of our houses, the park, a hotel, or in one of our neighborhoods. Jorge's pitch was to have two robbers enter a house not knowing someone was inside. Then, the person inside has to try to escape from the robbers. My pitch was to have three kids find a treasure map in their attic, and then go to the beach and search for the treasure.

Robbery Movie Ideas

We had a long talk about all the pitches and we all compared our pitches. After trying to get others to not want to do their idea, we finally cut it down to only two pitches. This process took a while because we all thought we could turn our pitches into really good films. After deliberation, Alex decided to let go of his idea. This left me and Jorge. Jorge's idea was to film two robbers breaking into a house, realizing someone is inside, where they try and kidnap them, and the victim tries to escape. My pitch was someone gets kidnapped and that person must run and try to escape robbers where they encounter situations. Both pitches are very similar, but we both have very different visions of what we want to do. Both also have very opposite shots and don't even require the same skills. The biggest different is probably going to be how easy they are to film, both are long and drawn out but they don't even have the same places of filming.

As mentioned before, Jorge's idea for the pitch is two film an innocent victim escape during a home invasion, which quickly turned into a kidnapping situation. This idea would be executed with many different angles. We'd first start off with an establishing shot of the location where the victim lives. Once this is shot, the next scenes will be from inside the house where the victims is going along his day. After a raid transition, it will cut to the burglars arriving at the destination and trying to break into the house. Once they've successfully made their way into the house it will cut to them encountering the victim. After a quick and suspenseful scene, the burglar start yelling and chasing the victims as he's making a run for it. These scenes will be filmed from a tracking shot and maybe even a point-of-view shot. These different shots will really put into perspective how the chase down really looks/fells from the perspective of the actors. Some of the downfalls of this pitch may be, that if the neighbors of where we are filming think this is an actual robbery, they may end up calling the police. Which is why we plan on staying the property of where we are filming.

Jack's idea however, is of someone who gets kidnapped. This person is then forced to have to flee from the robbers and end up being on the run from them. This type of movie would have to use a lot of point of view shots. When the person is running from the robbers, we will use a point of view shot to give the viewer an idea of what it would be like in a situation such as this one. We would also use tracking shots. While the hostage is running away, we will make the camera track behind him. We still have not settled on a location for this movie, however, some ideas I had were a forrest, hotel, or just in a neighborhood. As for sound effects, I have had some good ideas as what to do with the sound. We could make a scene when the hostage is on the run and then stops to see if he heard anyone. During this time of silence and stillness, we could add the sound of a leaf crunching underneath her foot. In order to get really good sound of the leaf crunching, we can record the sound of the leaf crunching separately. One downside to using this idea would be that we would have to find somewhere where we can freely run around since there will be a lot of action in this movie.
